Türkiye voices support for Syrian stability following ceasefire agreement

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation with President Ahmad Al-Sharaa of the Syrian Arab Republic on Thursday, focusing on the escalating situation in Syria following recent Israeli airstrikes.
According to a statement from the Turkish Presidency, the two leaders discussed the consequences of Israel’s latest attacks on Syrian territory, including strikes on key military and civilian sites. President Erdoğan strongly condemned the aggression, describing Israel’s actions as “unacceptable” and warning that such attacks pose a serious threat to the stability and security of the entire region.
Erdoğan reaffirmed Türkiye’s steadfast support for the Syrian people, emphasizing that Ankara will continue to stand by Syria in defense of its sovereignty, political unity, and territorial integrity. He also welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement reached with Druze groups in Syria, viewing it as a positive step toward restoring calm and internal stability.
In response, President Al-Sharaa thanked President Erdoğan for Türkiye’s principled stance and ongoing support. He expressed appreciation for Ankara’s efforts to preserve Syria’s sovereignty and national unity amid the ongoing conflict and foreign interventions.
The call comes at a critical time as tensions in Syria escalate due to repeated Israeli military operations, while regional actors seek to prevent further deterioration and encourage diplomatic solutions. The dialogue between the Turkish and Syrian leaders marks a continuation of Türkiye’s active role in regional diplomacy and signals warming relations between Ankara and Damascus after years of strained ties.
