Two dead after blast rocks chemical facility in Kocaeli

A powerful explosion ripped through a chemical plant in the Dilovası district of Kocaeli province on Saturday, leaving at least two workers dead, according to initial reports from local media.
The blast occurred in the early hours at an industrial facility specializing in chemical production. Emergency sirens were immediately sounded as thick smoke billowed from the plant, raising alarm among residents of the surrounding area.
Rescue and firefighting teams were quickly dispatched to the scene, working to extinguish the fire, secure the facility, and prevent further casualties. Ambulances and medical teams were also mobilized to treat potential injuries.
Authorities have confirmed the deaths of two workers, while efforts continue to determine whether others remain trapped inside the plant. The extent of the damage caused by the explosion has yet to be fully assessed.
Local security forces have cordoned off the area as investigators work to establish the cause of the explosion. Residents have been urged to avoid the vicinity until the situation is fully under control.
The Kocaeli Governorship is expected to issue an official statement later in the day.
