Thousands to march in Ankara urging immediate Gaza aid corridor

HÜDA PAR Deputy Chairman and Gaziantep MP Şahzade Demir, alongside the Anatolian Civil Society Platform, has issued a powerful call to all Türkiye’s citizens to join a historic march on August 10, from Güvenpark to the Grand National Assembly in Ankara.
The march demands the immediate establishment of a humanitarian aid corridor to Gaza, where millions face starvation and relentless bombardment under the Israeli occupation’s genocidal campaign. The announcement was made during a press conference at Parliament, attended by MPs from multiple parties—including the AK Party, New Welfare Party, Future Party, and HÜDA PAR—as well as civil society leaders representing Türkiye’s seven regions.
Opening the press conference, Şahzade Demir expressed deep gratitude to the attending MPs and NGO representatives while delivering a searing moral challenge to the global community. “The tragedy in Gaza has reached catastrophic proportions, both humanitarian and political. The Zionist occupation regime has brazenly escalated its campaign to fully occupy Gaza, defying international condemnation and even punishing its own officials who oppose its brutality. Meanwhile, 57 Islamic nations stand by as this massacre unfolds, unable to deliver even clean water to our brothers and sisters facing genocide. This is a collective shame for humanity,” he declared.
Demir emphasized that Gaza’s plight transcends politics, nationality, or ideology, framing it as a universal test of human conscience. “The people of Gaza are being tested with hunger and death. This is not solely a Palestinian, Arab, or Muslim issue—it is a crisis for all of humanity. We cannot remain passive in the face of such a humanitarian emergency. We call on all 86 million citizens of Türkiye to unite in Ankara on August 10, standing together on the common ground of human dignity,” he urged.
Demir praised the Anatolian Civil Society Platform for its tireless efforts in mobilizing public support for Gaza through rallies, educational campaigns, and international advocacy. “They have kept the conscience of this nation alive. Now, we bring this call directly to the heart of our Parliament,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the Ankara Palestine Solidarity Platform (ANFIDAP) and the Anatolian Civil Society Platform, Attorney Mustafa Eminoğlu, President of the Jerusalem and Law Platform, delivered a compelling appeal for political unity and immediate action. He highlighted the dire situation in Gaza, where two million people face extermination through famine, with malnutrition rates among children soaring due to Israel’s deliberate blockade.
“Every hour of inaction means another child dies of hunger. No political calculation or excuse can justify silence while two million lives hang in the balance. This is not about politics—it is about humanity. We demand that Parliament immediately form a ‘Gaza Humanity Alliance,’ uniting all political parties without hesitation to open a humanitarian corridor,” Eminoğlu stated.
Representing civil society groups from Türkiye’s seven regions, Eminoğlu emphasized that their presence at Parliament reflects the conscience of the Turkish people. “For 22 months, millions have filled the streets and squares of every province in Türkiye. We have marched relentlessly, but marches alone are not enough. We now call on the Grand National Assembly—the embodiment of our national will—to act decisively. We demand a humanitarian corridor from Anatolia to Parliament, and from Parliament to Gaza,” he said.
The August 10 march, set to begin at Güvenpark and conclude at the gates of the Grand National Assembly, is framed as a supra-political act of national unity. Eminoğlu clarified that the march is not a protest against any single party or government but a collective appeal to conscience. “At the end of the march, we will call on all political parties—government and opposition—to unite under the banner of humanity. We seek a resolute parliamentary commitment that declares, ‘Türkiye stands with Gaza, and we will act.’ Our goal is to forge a unified stance under the roof of the Grand National Assembly to protect Gaza, which defends not only Anatolia but the entire Islamic world,” he explained.
Eminoğlu stressed that the march aims to bridge divides, not widen them. “Our purpose is not to criticize or marginalize any party, whether in power or opposition. We seek to unite for Gaza. The fate of Gaza is intertwined with Türkiye’s dignity. We call on every citizen, every city, and every region to join hands for this cause. This is not a partisan march—it is a march for humanity,” he said.
Both Demir and Eminoğlu underscored the deep historical, moral, and strategic connection between Türkiye and Gaza. “For centuries, Anatolia has been a shield for oppressed nations. Today, Gaza is the front line of that defense. The survival of Gaza is tied to our own dignity. If we fail Gaza, we fail our history, our faith, and our humanity,” Demir said.
Eminoğlu echoed this sentiment, inviting all citizens to join the march. “Let August 10 be remembered as the day when the conscience of 86 million rose to demand justice. Let us show the world that Gaza is not alone, that Anatolia stands with her, and that a humanitarian corridor will be opened through the will of the people,” he concluded.
The March for Gaza is expected to draw tens of thousands of participants, including representatives of major NGOs, political figures, and ordinary citizens united under the rallying cry: “Open the Humanitarian Corridor. End the Genocide in Gaza.” As Gaza faces unrelenting starvation and bombardment, Türkiye’s civil society and lawmakers have issued a clarion call for action. The march on August 10 represents a pivotal moment for the nation to transform solidarity into tangible results, demanding justice and humanity for Palestine. (ILKHA)
