Türkiye’s Supreme Military Council to address army promotions and retirements

The Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) is set to convene to address critical personnel decisions within the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF), including promotions, retirements, and extensions of service terms.
During the meeting, council members will evaluate the promotion files of officers slated to advance to the ranks of general and admiral. In addition, the retirement status of certain personnel and the extension of service terms for others will be finalized.
This year’s deliberations will take place under the framework of the newly amended TAF Personnel Law, recently published in the Official Gazette. According to the updated legislation, up to 75 generals and admirals will be eligible to remain in their current ranks for an additional year, contingent upon a two-thirds majority vote within the Council.
All decisions adopted by the Council will come into force following the approval of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. (ILKHA)
