Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Ataullah Omari has expressed confidence that Afghanistan will achieve self-sufficiency in agriculture and transition from being reliant on imports to becoming an export-oriented nation.
In a televised interview, Omari highlighted the progress made in this direction over the past year and a half to two years, aiming to ensure that Afghanistan's food needs are met within the country's borders.
Omari emphasized the importance of effectively managing water resources, including underground water, to mitigate water shortages in Afghanistan. He stated that it is the responsibility of the Islamic Emirate and the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock to make necessary preparations and implement measures to secure and manage water sources.
Furthermore, the minister mentioned successful efforts in preventing locust outbreaks in agricultural lands across the country. The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock have proactively prepared strategies to combat locust infestations on an annual basis in affected provinces. (ILKHA)
