Afghanistan and China strengthen ties to boost mineral sector investment

Mullah Hedayatullah Badri, Afghanistan’s Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum, met with Zhao Xing, the Chinese ambassador to Afghanistan, to discuss deepening investment in the nation’s rich mineral resources.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, highlighted the growing partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment to economic collaboration.
In a statement issued by the ministry, Badri emphasized the longstanding political and economic bonds between Afghanistan and China. He reiterated both nations’ dedication to enhancing these ties and fostering a welcoming climate for foreign investors eager to tap into Afghanistan’s expanding mineral sector. The minister’s remarks signal a strategic push to leverage the country’s natural wealth for economic advancement.
Ambassador Zhao Xing echoed Badri’s sentiments, praising the deep and amicable relationship between Kabul and Beijing. He underscored the significance of their bilateral partnership, which continues to serve as a foundation for mutual growth.
Key projects took center stage during the talks, with both sides focusing on accelerating extraction at the Qashqari oil wells and advancing exploration of the Mes Aynak copper mine. These initiatives are seen as vital to bolstering Afghanistan’s economy, which has faced significant challenges in recent years.
The meeting represents a critical move toward attracting foreign capital, a cornerstone of Afghanistan’s efforts to rebuild and stimulate growth in its mineral resources sector. As the country seeks to harness its vast reserves, this strengthened collaboration with China could pave the way for transformative economic progress. (ILKHA)
