Afghanistan set to kick off major renewable energy investment in Herat

A groundbreaking $10 billion energy project spearheaded by prominent businessman Mirois Azizi has officially kicked off in Herat, aiming to revolutionize Afghanistan’s electricity supply through renewable sources like wind, solar, and hydropower.
A joint delegation from the Azizi Group and Afghanistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water met with provincial authorities, including Governor Sheikh Islam Jar, the provincial director of Information and Culture, and local business leaders, to mark the project’s launch. The initiative follows successful surveys in northern provinces and represents one of the country’s largest private investments in energy.
Abdul Razaq Samadi, senior advisor to the Azizi Foundation, announced that preliminary assessments and surveys are underway, with full-scale construction set to begin soon. “Herat’s abundant wind and solar potential positions this project as a pivotal step toward Afghanistan’s energy self-sufficiency,” Samadi said.
Governor Jar expressed enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing Herat’s hydropower potential and commending the Azizi Foundation’s commitment to both economic development and philanthropy. “This initiative will play a vital role in meeting Afghanistan’s electricity demands while fostering local growth,” he stated.
The Azizi energy project is poised to significantly enhance Afghanistan’s power infrastructure, promoting sustainable energy solutions and marking a major milestone in the nation’s pursuit of energy independence. (ILKHA)
