The Israeli military's campaign in northern Gaza continues to meet fierce resistance from Palestinian fighters, despite weeks of intense bombardment and ground operations.
Since the start of its General’s Plan on October 5, Israel has aimed to subdue the region through mass displacements, targeting civilian shelters, and imposing a severe blockade. However, Palestinian resistance forces remain defiant.
The Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, announced on Thursday that its fighters engaged an Israeli infantry unit of 15 soldiers in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza. According to their statement, the fighters "eliminated" the soldiers at point-blank range in an intense confrontation. Beit Lahia has become a focal point for both the Israeli military’s offensive and the Palestinian resistance’s operations.
In a separate incident, the Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, reported launching mortar shells at Israeli forces and vehicles in the Jabaliya refugee camp. Jabaliya remains another hotbed of resistance despite the widespread destruction caused by Israeli airstrikes.
The Al-Qassam Brigades and the Al-Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades confirmed a joint operation targeting Israeli forces stationed in the Netzarim axis with heavy mortar shells. Additionally, Al-Qassam fighters claimed to have destroyed an Israeli Merkava tank using a tandem shell near the Al-Saftawi area, west of Jabaliya.
The Lebanese Resistance Movement Hezbollah has also released statements in support of the Palestinian resistance, emphasizing regional solidarity against Israeli aggression. However, no direct involvement in these latest incidents has been reported.
The Israeli military's northern Gaza offensive, initially planned to be swift, has now entered its seventh week. The campaign, characterized by large-scale airstrikes, ground incursions, and civilian displacement, has failed to suppress the resistance movements entrenched in the region.
As the humanitarian crisis deepens, with widespread casualties and displacement, the situation in northern Gaza remains highly volatile. Both sides appear entrenched, with the resistance forces continuing to thwart Israeli objectives through guerrilla tactics and direct engagements. (ILKHA)
