At least 35 people have been killed and 43 others injured after a man drove his car into pedestrians outside a sports centre in Zhuhai, a city in southern China.
The incident occurred on Monday evening, coinciding with the country’s largest annual air show being held in the area.
State media reported that the suspect, a 62-year-old man, was apprehended by police after allegedly ramming his vehicle into a group of joggers before fleeing the scene. Authorities did not clarify whether the incident was intentional or an accident, and investigations are ongoing.
Emergency services were quickly deployed to the scene to assist the victims, as the area was filled with cries of a "terrorist" attack. However, police have not confirmed any specific motive behind the incident. The suspect, identified only by the surname Fan, was detained for questioning in connection with the attack.
As investigations continue, local authorities have urged the public to remain calm while law enforcement works to determine the full details surrounding the tragic event. (ILKHA)
