Deadly bus-truck collision in northern Ivory Coast leaves 16 dead, 51 injured

At least 16 people lost their lives and 51 others sustained injuries in a severe road accident early Sunday morning in northern Ivory Coast, the Ministry of Transport announced.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. local time (0600 GMT) when a passenger bus traveling from the coastal city of San Pedro to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, collided with a dump truck equipped with a crane.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Deadly traffic accidents are a persistent concern in Ivory Coast, as in many African nations, with contributing factors including deteriorating road conditions, aging vehicle fleets, and reckless driving behaviors.
The Ministry of Transport reiterated its commitment to improving road safety, emphasizing the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and better infrastructure maintenance. (ILKHA)
