The death toll due to floods and landslides in India’s northeastern Assam state rose to 174 after one more death was reported on Saturday.
According to local sources, the number of affected people declined to 22.17 lakh from the 29.70 lakh on the previous day.
On the other hand, one person died in Cachar district due to floods taking the death toll to 174 since mid-May.
“Troops of Assam Rifles and Spear Corps Engineers rescued 53 individuals including a cancer patient in ongoing flood relief operations in Silchar, Assam on 02 Jul 2022. 3598 persons rescued and evacuated so far,” The Spear Corps of Indian Army said on Twitter.
Indian officials said that more than 50,000 hectares of cropland are reportedly under flood water. (ILKHA)
