Erdoğan arrives in Egypt to attend Sharm El-Sheikh summit on Gaza ceasefire

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday to participate in the “Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit,” which will focus on the recently reached ceasefire agreement in Gaza and efforts to consolidate lasting peace in the region.
Upon his arrival at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport, President Erdoğan was welcomed by Egypt’s Minister of Culture Ahmed Fouad Hanno and Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy, along with Türkiye’s Ambassador to Cairo Salih Mutlu Şen and members of the Turkish Embassy staff.
The Turkish leader is accompanied by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, as Ankara continues its active diplomatic engagement in support of the ceasefire process and humanitarian relief for Gaza.
The Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump, brings together regional and international leaders to discuss the terms of the Gaza ceasefire deal, mechanisms for reconstruction, and guarantees to prevent future hostilities.
Türkiye has consistently emphasized the importance of a comprehensive and just peace that ensures the full rights and dignity of the Palestinian people, with President Erdoğan expected to reiterate Ankara’s position calling for the lifting of the blockade on Gaza, the protection of civilians, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
