EU Parliament leaders demand immediate action to stop Israel’s genocide in Gaza

Leaders of the Left, Greens/European Free Alliance, and Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament have openly accused the European Union of turning a blind eye to Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
In a strongly worded letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Antonio Costa, and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, the parliamentary leaders condemned Brussels’ refusal to act decisively despite overwhelming evidence of war crimes.
“For ten months, the EU has watched as Israel wages an unrelenting war of extermination against the Palestinian people in Gaza,” the letter stated. “This is not an emergency—it is a genocide, and the EU’s failure to act is a stain on its conscience.”
The lawmakers demanded that the EU immediately back a permanent ceasefire, suspend the EU–Israel Association Agreement, and impose a total arms embargo on Israel. They also called for targeted sanctions against Israeli political and military leaders, the full reinstatement of UNRWA funding, and a ban on all goods from illegal Israeli settlements.
They accused Israel not only of massacring Palestinians in Gaza but also of escalating settler violence in the occupied West Bank and openly declaring plans to permanently occupy the enclave—clear violations of international law.
While the EU’s foreign service has already confirmed Israel’s breaches of its treaty obligations, Brussels continues business as usual. “We cannot afford more delay. We cannot afford more bloodshed. History will not forgive silence in the face of mass suffering and impunity. The European Union must take responsibility and act now,” the signatories wrote.
Israel’s genocidal campaign has killed more than 61,000 Palestinians, almost half of them women and children, since October 7, 2023. Entire neighborhoods have been leveled, hospitals destroyed, and Gaza has been pushed to the brink of famine.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
Despite this, the EU’s top leadership has not moved to suspend agreements, halt arms sales, or impose meaningful sanctions. Critics say this is proof that Brussels has chosen to side with an apartheid state rather than uphold the human rights it claims to defend. (ILKHA)

US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Moscow on Wednesday for critical talks with Russian officials, potentially including President Vladimir Putin, as the clock ticks down to President Donald Trump’s August 8 deadline for a ceasefire in the Ukraine war.
Nearly two years of relentless Israeli bombardment have transformed bustling neighborhoods into a skeletal wasteland of rubble and dust, with over 61,000 Palestinians killed and countless others still buried beneath collapsed structures.
20 Palestinian civilians were killed and dozens more injured when an aid truck, forced onto a treacherous road by Israeli occupation forces, overturned on a crowd of starving people desperately seeking humanitarian aid in the central Gaza Strip.
