Gaza’s lifeline hospital faces catastrophe without immediate power supply

Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital, a central medical facility in Gaza, has issued an urgent plea for an electric generator to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe as thousands of sick and wounded face life-threatening conditions.
In a statement released Sunday evening, hospital officials emphasized that Shuhada al-Aqsa remains the primary medical center serving nearly one million residents in central Gaza, providing critical healthcare services amid the ongoing siege and escalating conflict.
The hospital warned that its main power generators, which have been running continuously under extreme strain and harsh operating conditions, have suffered repeated breakdowns, leaving patients at grave risk.
Without immediate assistance, essential medical procedures, including surgeries and life-saving treatments, could be halted.
“Our generators are failing, and every hour counts. Thousands of lives depend on restoring electricity immediately,” the statement read, highlighting the urgency of the crisis.
Medical staff and volunteers are working tirelessly under severe limitations, yet the hospital’s capacity to treat patients is rapidly deteriorating due to the lack of reliable power. Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital called on humanitarian organizations, international donors, and supporters of Palestine to respond swiftly to deliver a functional generator and prevent further loss of life.
This urgent appeal comes as Gaza continues to endure relentless challenges under the Israeli siege, with medical facilities struggling to provide care amid shortages of electricity, fuel, and essential medical supplies.
“In the midst of ongoing aggression and blockade, Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital stands as a lifeline for the people of Gaza. Without immediate support, we face a humanitarian disaster,” the hospital said.
Human rights organizations and global humanitarian agencies have repeatedly warned that continued electricity shortages in Gaza’s hospitals threaten the lives of thousands, particularly children, the elderly, and critically wounded patients.
The hospital’s appeal underscores the dire situation in Gaza, emphasizing that international intervention and aid are urgently needed to prevent a health catastrophe in the besieged territory. (ILKHA)
