The Global Alliance for Palestine (GAFP) officially launched on July 26 with a landmark conference in London, bringing together delegates from 25 countries to confront what organizers described as Israel’s ongoing genocide and starvation campaign in Gaza.

The inaugural gathering united grassroots activists, political leaders, and civil society figures from across the globe, aiming to create a unified and coordinated front for Palestinian liberation, justice, and self-determination.

Described as a “historic gathering,” the event featured keynote addresses from UK Member of Parliament and GAFP Steering Committee Chair Jeremy Corbyn, as well as Palestinian statesman Dr. Mustafa Barghouti. Both speakers called for immediate and sustained international action to end the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

“The brutality unfolding in Gaza demands an unequivocal response from the international community,” said Dr. Barghouti. “GAFP is a crucial step toward unifying efforts to challenge impunity and work for Palestinian liberation.”

Corbyn echoed the urgency, describing the scale of devastation in Gaza as “unconscionable.” “Silence is not an option,” he said. “This platform is about justice, peace, and a global pushback against impunity.”

The conference featured video messages of solidarity from high-profile global figures, including former Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams, Greek economist and politician Prof. Yanis Varoufakis, Hon. Peter David of Grenada, South African anti-apartheid activist Ronnie Kasrils, and Indian organizer Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla.

Additional powerful contributions came from Reverend Frank Chikane of South Africa and Deputy Angelo Bonelli of Italy, both of whom emphasized the necessity of global unity in confronting Israel’s actions and supporting Palestinian resilience.

Dr. Anas Altikriti, chair of the GAFP Preparatory Committee, laid out the movement’s next steps, which include forming an interim Executive Committee and mobilizing international networks to take coordinated action.

As a first major initiative, the alliance announced an International Day of Action for Gaza, to be held on September 6, 2025, and observed in cities worldwide.

“GAFP is not just a statement of solidarity—it is a call to organize,” said Altikriti. “We are building a movement that translates moral outrage into coordinated political and grassroots action.”

The launch of GAFP comes at a time of intensifying scrutiny of Israel’s actions in Gaza and growing demands for accountability. Organizers say the alliance aims to serve as a central body to align campaigns, pressure governments, and strengthen resistance to Israel’s occupation and apartheid system.

The London conference marks a pivotal moment in international efforts to push back against the Israeli war machine, and it signals the rising momentum of a global movement determined to stand with the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom and dignity. (ILKHA)
