Humanitarian organizations are intensifying their operations across the Gaza Strip to address the escalating needs of civilians amid ongoing challenges, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the occupied Palestinian territory.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society has completed the relocation of its field hospital from Khan Younis to Gaza City, where it is expected to resume operations soon, bolstering medical services in the area.
According to OCHA, significant strides have been made in addressing acute malnutrition among children, with over 2,300 children admitted for outpatient treatment since January 1, 2025. However, the humanitarian situation remains dire, particularly for those requiring urgent medical evacuations. In the first 10 days of February, 360 patients, including 156 children, were successfully evacuated from Gaza for medical treatment. Despite these efforts, OCHA estimates that between 12,000 and 14,000 people, including approximately 5,000 children, remain in urgent need of evacuation due to critical health conditions.
The ongoing crisis in Gaza has placed immense pressure on humanitarian actors, who are working to scale up operations amid challenging conditions, including limited access, damaged infrastructure, and security concerns. The relocation of the Palestine Red Crescent Society’s field hospital is seen as a critical step in enhancing healthcare capacity in Gaza City, where medical facilities have been strained by the conflict and displacement.
OCHA’s updates highlight the urgent need for continued international support to address the humanitarian needs in Gaza, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children and those requiring life-saving medical care. The agency emphasized that while progress has been made, the scale of the crisis demands sustained efforts to ensure that essential services, including healthcare, nutrition, and medical evacuations, reach those most in need.
As the situation evolves, humanitarian organizations are calling for increased access, funding, and coordination to mitigate the impacts of the crisis on Gaza’s population. The coming weeks will be critical in determining the effectiveness of these efforts, with the international community closely monitoring developments in the region. (ILKHA)
