India upgrades diplomatic mission in Kabul to full-fledged embassy
India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced on Thursday that its diplomatic mission in Kabul has been formally upgraded from a “technical team” to a full-fledged embassy, marking a significant step in bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to the Ministry, India’s Chargé d’Affaires will soon travel to Kabul to assume official duties at the upgraded mission. The decision follows the recent visit of Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi to New Delhi, during which he held discussions with Indian officials on enhancing bilateral cooperation.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that the upgrade aims to strengthen diplomatic engagement, expand India’s presence in Afghanistan, and facilitate closer collaboration on political, economic, and humanitarian initiatives.
Analysts note that the move reflects India’s ongoing interest in stability and development in Afghanistan, as well as its commitment to deepening regional connectivity and supporting Afghan reconstruction efforts.
The upgraded embassy will allow India to conduct a broader range of diplomatic activities, including consular services, economic and cultural cooperation, and political dialogue with the Afghan government. (ILKHA)
