The Iranian government has declared three days of public mourning following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, in Tehran.
In an official statement, the Iranian government condemned the assassination as a grave violation of humanitarian principles and international law. The statement highlighted that Haniyeh, who was an official guest in Iran, was targeted with “specific goals” in mind, coinciding with the country's preparations for the inauguration of its new government.
The Iranian administration described the attack as a clear indication of the “terrorist nature” of the Zionist regime and condemned it as another addition to the “shameful list” of its atrocities.
In addition to the national mourning period, Iran’s Islamic Propagation Coordination Council (IPCC) has announced a funeral procession for Haniyeh, scheduled to take place on Thursday. The procession will move from Tehran University to Azadi Square.
Hamas has stated that Haniyeh’s burial will occur in Doha, Qatar, where the movement operates a political office. (ILKHA)
