Iran: Schools closed in Tehran and several provinces due to severe air pollution

Schools in Tehran and several other provinces in Iran have been closed due to a severe surge in air pollution.
The closure affects all primary and secondary schools in the capital city of Tehran, as well as in Alborz and Isfahan provinces.
The decision to close schools was made after the Tehran Air Quality Control Company announced that the air pollution index had reached 153 on the evening of December 3. This level of air pollution is considered "unhealthy" and can pose serious health risks, especially for children, pregnant women, and individuals with heart or lung conditions.
Officials have warned that the air pollution in Tehran is expected to worsen until December 7. They have advised residents to avoid outdoor activities and wear masks when outside.
This is not the first time that schools in Iran have been closed due to air pollution. In 2021, schools in Tehran were closed for several days due to a similar spike in air pollution.
Air pollution is a major problem in Iran, and it is estimated to cause thousands of deaths each year. The government has been criticized for its lack of action to address the issue. (ILKHA)
