Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi to attend OIC summit in Istanbul

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to Turkey this weekend to attend the 51st Council of Foreign Ministers summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul on Saturday, a Turkish Foreign Ministry source confirmed.
The high-level meeting comes as tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate, with the summit expected to address the ongoing conflict.
The OIC summit, hosting foreign ministers from over 40 member states, will include prominent regional leaders such as Saudi Arabia’s Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Qatar’s Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and Iraq’s Fuad Mohammed Hussein. A special session is planned to discuss Israel’s recent airstrikes on Iranian territory, according to the source.
The 57-member OIC, a key diplomatic platform for Muslim-majority nations, will focus on coordinating responses to the Iran-Israel conflict. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is expected to call for de-escalation and advocate for diplomatic solutions. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has intensified diplomatic efforts, condemning Israel’s actions and proposing mediation, including facilitating renewed nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington.
Erdogan has recently engaged in discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Russia’s Vladimir Putin, Qatar’s Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to address the crisis.
It is unclear if Araghchi and Fidan will hold a bilateral meeting during the summit. Prior to Istanbul, Araghchi will visit Geneva on Friday to meet with the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, according to Iranian state media outlet IRNA.
This is a developing story, and further updates are expected as the summit unfolds. (ILKHA)
