Israel intensifies ethnic cleansing in Tulkarm camps with mass evictions

The Israeli occupation forces have now entered the 100th day of their sustained aggression against the city of Tulkarm and its refugee camp, and the 87th day in the adjacent Nur Shams camp, marked by ongoing military incursions, significant casualties, widespread property damage, and persistent harassment of Palestinian residents.
Local sources reported a heightened presence of Israeli military vehicles and infantry units overnight and into early Monday, patrolling key areas of Tulkarm city, including around the Martyr Thabet Thabet Roundabout and the streets of Al-Haddadeen, Al-Alimi, Nablus, and Shuweika. These patrols have severely restricted the movement of civilians and vehicles, accompanied by provocations, harassment, and the firing of live ammunition and sound grenades.
During raids on several homes, Israeli forces arrested two young men: Ahed Fathallah Al-Hamshari, a Civil Defense officer, taken from his residence in the eastern neighborhood, and Wissam Issam Odeh, apprehended from his home in the southern neighborhood. Troops also targeted the home of Hadi Al-Hamshari, the Director of Political and National Guidance in Tulkarm and a former detainee, conducting a destructive search.
The past 100 days have seen Tulkarm city and its two camps subjected to a suffocating siege, repeated military raids, and systematic attacks targeting civilian homes and infrastructure. These actions have effectively transformed the camps and some residential areas into military zones, with numerous properties seized, residents displaced, infrastructure and belongings destroyed, and entrances sealed off with earth barriers.
This extended aggression has now coincided with the implementation of plans by the Israeli occupation to alter the demographic character of the two camps and displace their residents. Last Thursday, demolition notices were issued to 106 homes and residential buildings – 58 in Tulkarm camp and 48 in Nur Shams camp. Yesterday marked the beginning of this demolition campaign with the destruction of 15 residential buildings in the Manshiyya neighborhood of Nur Shams camp.
Continuing this destructive plan, the Israeli military announced overnight its intention to demolish an additional 19 buildings, comprising over 50 residential units, in the al-Jami' and al-Maslakh neighborhoods within Nur Shams camp. Residents were given a mere two hours early this morning to evacuate their possessions.
Despite prior arrangements for residents to safely enter their homes to retrieve belongings, Israeli forces reportedly obstructed these efforts, chasing and detaining residents for hours, issuing threats, and firing live ammunition and sound bombs, including towards Palestine Red Crescent Society personnel and support teams.
Tulkarm Governor Abdullah Kamil strongly condemned the demolition of the 15 residential units in Nur Shams camp as a "truly sadistic" act rooted in the "criminal mentality" of the occupation against Palestinians. He emphasized that this action exacerbates the suffering of residents, deepens the forced displacement crisis, and forcibly removes them from their homes under baseless pretexts unrelated to security concerns.
Governor Kamil reiterated his urgent appeal to the international community, human rights organizations, and diplomatic missions to break their silence and take immediate action to halt the ongoing aggression against Tulkarm city and its two camps.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue to seize homes and residential buildings along Nablus Street and the adjacent northern neighborhood, converting them into military outposts after forcibly evicting their occupants. Israeli military vehicles and bulldozers remain stationed in the area.
The 100-day aggression against Tulkarm and its camps has tragically resulted in the deaths of 13 Palestinian citizens, including a child and two women (one of whom was eight months pregnant). Dozens more have been injured and detained, and vital infrastructure has sustained severe damage, with homes, shops, and vehicles either completely or partially demolished, burned, vandalized, looted, and stolen.
Furthermore, the ongoing military operation has forcibly displaced over 4,200 families, totaling more than 25,000 individuals, from the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps. The destruction includes the complete demolition of 396 homes and the partial destruction of 2,573 others, compounded by the closure of entrances and alleys with earth barricades. (ILKHA)
