A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia's North Maluku on Wednesday, according to the country's geophysics agency.
The quake, which occurred at a depth of 81 kilometers (50 miles), did not pose a tsunami threat, the agency reported on the social media platform X.
There have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency has yet to respond to requests for comment.
Indonesia is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a seismically active zone where multiple tectonic plates collide, frequently triggering earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, and residents in the affected areas are urged to remain vigilant for any potential aftershocks. (ILKHA)
