Pakistan has handed over 141 Afghan nationals to the Directorate of Migrant Transfers at the Torkham border crossing.
The group includes men, women, and children from various Afghan provinces, raising concerns about the circumstances of their detention and deportation.
Bakht Jamal Gowhar, head of migrant transfers at Torkham, confirmed the transfer, stating that the individuals hail from provinces across Afghanistan, including Kunar, Kapisa, Maidan Wardak, Kunduz, Khost, Kabul, Baghlan, Laghman, Paktia, Bamyan, Uruzgan, and Nangarhar.
Disturbingly, Gowhar revealed that many of those deported possessed valid legal documentation. Despite this, they were arrested in different parts of Pakistan and subsequently detained, often in Islamabad prisons, for periods ranging from five to ten days before being transported to Torkham for deportation.
The reasons for their arrest and subsequent deportation, despite holding legal documents, remain unclear. This incident is likely to raise questions about Pakistan's policies regarding Afghan refugees and migrants. (ILKHA)
