Pakistan kills 12 Afghan civilians in cross-border attack

At least 12 civilians were killed and over 100 others injured this morning in a cross-border attack by Pakistani forces targeting the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar, Afghanistan, Taliban officials reported.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, stated via social media that Pakistani forces once again launched assaults on Afghan territory using light and heavy weaponry, causing significant civilian casualties.
“In response, Afghan forces were compelled to carry out a counterattack,” Mujahid said. “Numerous Pakistani aggressors were killed, military positions and command centers were seized, weapons and tanks captured, and many installations destroyed. By 08:00 local time, the situation was under control. Nonetheless, our fighters remain ready to protect their homeland, territory, and citizens with unwavering determination.”
The incident comes amid rising tensions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, following repeated cross-border clashes and militant activities. Pakistani media reported late Tuesday night that armed groups, including members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), engaged in firefights with Pakistani border forces in the Kurram region, prompting retaliation by the Pakistan military. Several militant positions across the border were reportedly destroyed, with multiple insurgents killed.
The Spin Boldak attack underscores the persistent volatility in the region, where frequent violations of Afghan territory exacerbate civilian vulnerability. Mujahid had previously warned that any intrusion into Afghan soil would not go unanswered.
International observers have expressed concern over the escalating conflict, highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and diplomatic intervention to prevent further civilian casualties.
Afghan forces continue to monitor the border closely, while both local and international authorities call for restraint and the protection of civilian lives amidst ongoing cross-border hostilities. (ILKHA)
