Russian President Vladimir Putin called Iranian President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday to congratulate him on his election victory.
During the call, Putin expressed hope that the strong relations between Russia and Iran would continue to develop under Pezeshkian's leadership.
Pezeshkian, who will soon take office, conveyed his determination to further strengthen bilateral ties with Russia. "We attach great importance to relations with our friendly and neighboring country Russia, and we will undoubtedly strengthen these relations," Pezeshkian assured Putin.
President Putin highlighted the agreements made during the administration of the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who tragically passed away in a helicopter crash in May. He expressed his desire for Moscow and Tehran to build on these agreements.
Pezeshkian committed to implementing the existing agreements with Moscow and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two nations. The leaders discussed expanding cooperation, particularly in the energy and transportation sectors.
Additionally, President Putin invited Pezeshkian to attend the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. Pezeshkian underscored the significance of cooperation within international and regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BRICS, and the Eurasian Economic Union.
