Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has urged the immediate commencement of negotiations for the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Speaking at a press conference in Doha following a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Al Thani stressed the urgency of the situation. "The second phase of negotiations must begin tomorrow, and we have already started engaging with both parties for that purpose," he stated.
Al Thani reiterated Qatar's firm opposition to the displacement of Palestinians, offering to host released Palestinian prisoners should they choose to relocate there. He called for full implementation of the ceasefire agreement by all parties involved and insisted on swift progress in the second phase of negotiations, emphasizing that no compromises should delay this process.
Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan echoed Qatar's stance, asserting that displacing Palestinians from Gaza constitutes a violation of international law and calling for universal opposition to such a move. He specifically addressed the previous administration's proposal, underscoring Turkiye's strong rejection of any plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to other countries, deeming it illegal under international law.
Meanwhile, Hamas representative in Lebanon, Ahmad Abdel Hadi, told Al Mayadeen that while the second phase of prisoner exchange and ceasefire negotiations will be challenging, the current atmosphere favors Hamas. He emphasized that the Israeli captives held by the Palestinian Resistance serve as a crucial negotiating tool and predicted that the outcomes of the second phase would be more advantageous for the Resistance, citing a more positive atmosphere than before. Abdel Hadi expressed confidence that the ceasefire agreement would hold, even with potential new conditions from Israel, and dismissed any indications of its imminent collapse, noting that the agreement had received approval from the previous US administration.
Separately, Israeli Channel 12 reported that mediators are exploring ways to expedite the implementation of the prisoner exchange deal, with the aim of consolidating and streamlining phases to facilitate larger exchanges in shorter timeframes, according to the channel’s Arab affairs analyst, Ehud Yaari.
