South Korean navy plane crashes in Pohang mountains

A South Korean navy patrol aircraft carrying four crew members crashed on Thursday in the southeastern city of Pohang, Yonhap News Agency reported.
The incident occurred at around 1:50 p.m. local time (0450 GMT), when the aircraft went down on a mountainous slope near the coastal city, triggering an emergency response.
Eyewitnesses in the area reported seeing thick smoke rising from the crash site shortly after the plane disappeared from view. The current condition of the four individuals aboard the aircraft remains unknown as rescue efforts continue.
Emergency response teams, including fire, police, and military personnel, were quickly dispatched to the area. Search and rescue operations are underway amid challenging terrain and ongoing concerns over potential onboard fuel hazards.
The South Korean military has not yet released details about the specific model of the aircraft or its mission at the time of the crash. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause of the incident.
