Tulkarem under siege: Israeli occupation escalates brutality against Palestinians

Israeli occupation forces have intensified their military aggression on the city of Tulkarem and its surrounding refugee camps, marking the 59th consecutive day of operations in Tulkarem and its camp, and the 46th day in Nur Shams camp.
The ongoing assault has involved heavy military reinforcements, forced displacement of residents, widespread detentions, and significant destruction of infrastructure.
According to local sources, Israeli forces have deployed large numbers of armored vehicles and bulldozers to both the Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps, maintaining a suffocating siege on the area. In Tulkarem camp, families in the Al-Hadaida and Al-Rubayia neighborhoods were forcibly evicted from their homes at gunpoint, adding to the growing wave of displacement from the camp’s outskirts. In Nur Shams camp, military vehicles and bulldozers advanced into Jabal al-Nasr, where dozens of homes were seized and converted into military outposts after residents were expelled.
The escalation has also seen Israeli forces take control of 10 residential buildings in Tulkarem’s northern neighborhood near Nablus Street, containing dozens of apartments. After forcing residents out, the buildings were transformed into military posts, and the area was designated a closed military zone. On Nablus Street itself, temporary checkpoints and earth mounds have restricted vehicle movement, with soldiers conducting lengthy identity checks on passengers.
At dawn today, Israeli forces raided the town of Ramin, east of Tulkarem, with foot patrols and additional reinforcements sweeping the area. While homes were searched, no detentions were reported there. Elsewhere in Tulkarem and its suburbs, several Palestinians were detained after early-morning raids that included extensive home searches and property damage.
The human toll of the 59-day campaign has been severe. At least 13 Palestinians, including a child, two women—one eight months pregnant—have been killed. Dozens more have been injured or detained. Over 4,000 families from Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps, along with dozens from the city’s northern neighborhood, have been forcibly displaced. The aggression has left a trail of devastation, with 396 homes completely destroyed and 2,573 partially damaged. Infrastructure, commercial shops, and vehicles have also been demolished, burned, looted, or stolen, while camp entrances and alleys remain sealed with earth mounds.
The sustained military operations, characterized by home seizures, bulldozing, and tight restrictions on movement, have drawn widespread concern as the humanitarian crisis in Tulkarem and its camps deepens. (ILKHA)
