UN expert: Israel using aid as a cover for war crimes in Gaza

Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, issued a scathing statement on Friday, accusing Israel of using humanitarian aid as a façade to mask ongoing violations in Gaza.
“Israel pretends to promote humanitarian solutions in order to continue its control of Gaza and sustain its systematic denial of life-saving humanitarian aid to the starving population in the besieged strip,” Albanese said.
Her remarks come amid growing international concern over the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where over a million people face severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies after months of Israeli military operations and a near-total blockade.
Albanese criticized Israel's narrative surrounding its humanitarian efforts, noting it was “camouflaging its war on Gaza behind the language of aid” to divert global attention from legal consequences and accountability.
She further warned that such tactics are contributing to the erosion of international humanitarian law. “This is Israel’s attempt to dismantle the very principles upon which humanitarian law was built,” she stated.
Albanese’s comments are likely to intensify calls for international investigations into Israel’s conduct in Gaza, where the UN and multiple rights organizations have already raised alarms over potential war crimes and collective punishment of the civilian population. (ILKHA)
