The Turkish Statistical Institute announced on Friday that house sales in Türkiye saw a significant increase of 39.7% in January compared to the same month of the previous year, totaling 112,173 units sold.
The provinces with the highest number of house sales were İstanbul, with 18,912 units sold, Ankara with 10,158, and İzmir with 6,634. In contrast, the provinces with the lowest number of house sales were Ardahan with 39, Bayburt with 62, and Tunceli with 80.
Mortgaged House Sales
In January, mortgaged house sales saw a remarkable rise of 182.8% compared to the same period last year, reaching 16,726 units. These sales represented 14.9% of all house sales, with 3,856 of the mortgaged houses being first sales.
Other House Sales
Other house sales, excluding mortgaged houses, increased by 28.3% year-on-year, totaling 95,447 units. These accounted for 85.1% of all house sales in January.
First-Time House Sales
First-time house sales rose by 29.8% in January, compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 32,785 units. These sales represented 29.2% of the total house sales.
Second-Hand House Sales
Second-hand house sales saw an increase of 44.2% year-on-year, totaling 79,388 units. These sales constituted 70.8% of all house sales in January.
Sales to Foreigners
House sales to foreigners, however, decreased by 24.9% in January compared to the previous year, amounting to 1,547 units. Foreign house sales accounted for 1.4% of all house sales in January. The provinces with the highest number of house sales to foreigners were İstanbul with 611, Antalya with 469, and Mersin with 118.
Top Buyers by Nationality
In January, the majority of house sales to foreigners were made to Russian citizens, with 248 units sold. This was followed by Iranian citizens with 162 units, and Iraqi citizens with 103 units. (ILKHA)
