Istanbul leads Turkish provinces with 30.4% share in 2022 GDP

The Turkish Statistical Institute revealed that Istanbul claimed the highest share of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2022, accounting for 30.4%.
The city reached a GDP of 4 trillion 564 billion 280 million TRY, making up nearly one-third of the total GDP.
Following Istanbul, Ankara secured an 8.9% share with 1 trillion 329 billion 810 million TRY, and Izmir held a 6.5% share with 972 billion 238 million TRY. Conversely, the provinces of Tunceli, Ardahan, and Bayburt ranked lowest in GDP.
The top five provinces in terms of GDP share collectively contributed 53.9% to Turkey's total GDP.
Kocaeli claimed the highest GDP per capita at 302,772 TRY in 2022, followed by Istanbul and Tekirdağ. On the other end, Şanlıurfa, Ağrı, and Van reported the lowest GDP per capita.
Istanbul dominated various economic activities, except for "agriculture, forestry, and fishing" and "other service activities." The city showcased significant shares in information and communication activities, finance and insurance, professional services, and construction.
Examining GDP by economic activity, the services sector held the largest share in Istanbul's total GDP at 36.5%, followed by the industry sector and professional, administrative, and support services.
Furthermore, the annual GDP with a chain-linked volume index increased by 5.5% in 2022, with 26 provinces surpassing the national average. Antalya, Kırşehir, and Kilis experienced the highest growth, while Artvin, Erzincan, and Karabük faced declines.
Istanbul made the most substantial contribution to the GDP percentage change of Turkey in 2022, with 2.46%, followed by Antalya and Ankara. Osmaniye, Elazığ, and Hatay reported the most significant negative contributions.
