Türkiye and Syria hold talks in Istanbul to strengthen economic and trade cooperation
Turkish and Syrian officials convened in Istanbul on Tuesday to discuss the strengthening of economic and trade relations between the two countries, in a move signaling Ankara’s commitment to rebuilding regional economic partnerships.
The Syrian delegation, led by Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal al-Shaar, met with Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat and other Turkish economic officials to explore ways to develop bilateral ties. The talks focused on enhancing economic integration and opening new channels for cooperation in industry, trade, and investment—areas that Türkiye views as key to supporting mutual growth and regional stability.
The Syrian delegation, which includes Central Bank Governor Abdulkader Husrieh, Director General of the Syrian Development Fund Safwat Raslan, and representatives from public and private sector institutions, arrived in Türkiye on Monday to participate in the first meeting of the Syrian-Turkish Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO). The establishment of JETCO reflects Türkiye’s proactive approach to institutionalizing economic dialogue with its southern neighbor.
The talks aim to advance economic integration that serves the interests of both nations, while also contributing to Syria’s reconstruction and economic recovery. The visit is part of broader Turkish government efforts to build strategic partnerships and strengthen institutional frameworks aimed at advancing bilateral economic relations in the coming period.
Ankara views enhanced trade and investment ties with Syria as a crucial component of its regional economic strategy, emphasizing stability, development, and mutually beneficial cooperation. (ILKHA)
