Türkiye fines four major milk companies 58.3M TL for unfair practices

Türkiye’s Ministry of Trade has slapped four major milk companies with fines totaling 58.3 million Turkish lira for unfair commercial practices targeting small-scale milk producers and suppliers, the ministry announced on Tuesday.
Following numerous complaints from small dairy producers about delayed payments and inequitable contract terms, the ministry launched an investigation into large-scale raw milk buyers. The probe revealed that the four companies engaged in practices such as imposing detrimental contract conditions and unjustified payment delays, violating fair trade standards.
“The Ministry of Trade is committed to curbing unfair commercial practices and payment delays that harm agricultural and food producers,” the ministry stated, emphasizing its ongoing efforts to protect small businesses in the dairy sector.
The fines mark a significant move to safeguard small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and rural producers in Türkiye’s vital dairy industry. The ministry’s actions align with broader efforts to bolster food security, support rural livelihoods, and promote ethical business practices amid rising inflation and cost pressures.
The names of the fined companies were not disclosed. Further enforcement measures and potential sector-wide reforms are anticipated as the government continues to prioritize fair market practices. (ILKHA)
