4.2 magnitude earthquake rattles Konya in central Türkiye

A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 struck 23 kilometers (14 miles) from Kulu, in Türkiye’s Konya province, on Friday afternoon, according to seismological reports.
The quake occurred at 2:44 pm local time (GMT +3) and was felt by some residents near the epicenter, though no immediate reports of damage or injuries have emerged.
While the exact depth of the earthquake could not be determined, experts have assumed it to be shallow, which often results in stronger shaking at the surface near the epicenter. Local authorities are monitoring the situation, and residents in the affected area have been advised to remain vigilant for potential aftershocks.
Türkiye, located on several active fault lines, frequently experiences seismic activity, though earthquakes of this magnitude typically cause minimal disruption. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. (ILKHA)
