Erdoğan holds high-level online summit with U.S., Saudi and Syrian leaders

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a virtual summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa to discuss regional stability, counterterrorism cooperation, and pressing humanitarian crises, the Turkish Presidency announced.
During the meeting, President Erdoğan emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to supporting a stable and sovereign Syria that cooperates with its neighbors, poses no threat to regional peace, and contributes to economic prosperity. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for the Syrian government’s fight against terrorist organizations, particularly DAESH (ISIS), and expressed Ankara's readiness to assist with the management and security of detention facilities holding DAESH militants.
President Erdoğan also welcomed President Trump’s recent decision to lift U.S. sanctions against Syria, describing it as “a historic step” that could pave the way for broader international investment in Syria’s reconstruction. “This decision can set a precedent for other countries to reconsider and lift their sanctions,” Erdoğan stated, highlighting opportunities for development across various sectors in Syria.
On the situation in Gaza, President Erdoğan voiced deep concern over the escalating humanitarian crisis and reiterated Türkiye’s continued efforts to halt the cycle of violence. “The humanitarian tragedy in Gaza must come to an end immediately,” he stressed, urging international cooperation for a just resolution.
Turning to the ongoing war in Ukraine, Erdoğan called for an urgent revival of ceasefire and peace negotiations at both the leadership and technical levels. He underlined Türkiye’s determination to play a mediating role in efforts to restore peace between Russia and Ukraine.
The high-level online meeting underscored Türkiye’s active diplomatic role in the region and its efforts to forge dialogue among major players amid multiple crises. (ILKHA)
