Erdoğan warns German Chancellor of regional fallout from Israel-Iran conflict

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Friday, focusing on the escalating Israel-Iran conflict, bilateral relations, and broader regional developments.
According to a statement from the Turkish Presidency, Erdoğan emphasized that the resolution of nuclear tensions with Iran must be pursued through diplomatic negotiations. He warned that the conflict, ignited by Israel’s attacks on Iranian territory, has pushed regional security to a critical threshold.
Erdoğan highlighted the potential for far-reaching consequences, warning that the ongoing cycle of violence could destabilize not only the Middle East but also Europe. He expressed particular concern over the risks of a mass migration crisis and possible nuclear leakage.
“The repercussions of this spiral of violence, triggered by Israel’s attacks, could negatively impact both the region and Europe,” Erdoğan told the German leader.
The Turkish president also reaffirmed Türkiye’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore regional calm. “Türkiye is exerting efforts to end the conflict and restore calm and will continue to do so,” he said.
The call underscored Ankara’s increasing diplomatic engagement amid heightened instability in the region, as Turkish officials continue to advocate for a negotiated solution to avert a broader crisis. (ILKHA)
