Yapıcıoğlu, Erbakan push for legal justice against Gaza war criminals

HÜDA PAR Chairman Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu paid a visit to Fatih Erbakan, Chairman of the New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi), at the party’s headquarters in Ankara.
The meeting, which was marked by a spirit of mutual understanding and national responsibility, focused on critical issues concerning both domestic policy and the broader Islamic world.
The leaders addressed key developments in the Middle East, particularly the ongoing genocide in Gaza, as well as legislative initiatives in Türkiye aimed at defending traditional family values and combating moral decay. They also explored mechanisms for strengthening parliamentary cooperation on issues of national interest.
One of the main highlights of the meeting was the shared concern over the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the Gaza Strip. Yapıcıoğlu drew attention to a law proposal previously submitted by HÜDA PAR, seeking to prosecute individuals with dual citizenship who participated in the genocide in Gaza. He praised the New Welfare Party’s support in moving the proposal forward to the General Assembly.
“In our previous legislative efforts, we visited Mr. Erbakan and his colleagues and sought their backing. One of the proposals focused on holding dual nationals accountable for participating in the crime of genocide,” Yapıcıoğlu said. “Thanks to their support, this vital bill was brought to the General Assembly’s agenda.”
He emphasized that such legislative efforts are not only legal necessities but also moral imperatives. “This proposal carries a deep sense of conscientious responsibility—both for Türkiye and for the broader international community. If passed, it would be a meaningful contribution to justice for Gaza,” he added.
The second major item on the agenda was the urgent need for legislative measures to protect the family institution in Türkiye. Yapıcıoğlu referenced a bill submitted to the Turkish Parliament on April 18, aimed at “preserving family integrity and preventing the normalization of sexual perversions.”
Due to procedural delays in parliamentary committees, HÜDA PAR invoked Article 37 of the legislative bylaws to demand the proposal be brought directly before the General Assembly. Yapıcıoğlu called on the New Welfare Party for its continued support on this issue as well, underlining that the family unit is a societal cornerstone.
"Family is a shared value across all segments of our society,” he said. “This is a supra-party matter, and we intend to seek backing from all political parties for proposals that concern the moral and social well-being of our nation.”
Yapıcıoğlu further stated that HÜDA PAR is open to supporting similar proposals from other parties, viewing such collaboration as a “debt, obligation, and national duty.”
In his remarks, New Welfare Party leader Fatih Erbakan welcomed the visit and emphasized the importance of unity among political parties when it comes to serving the public good. He noted that the issues discussed—ranging from Gaza to family legislation and moral standards—are areas of strong consensus between the two parties.
“There is an atmosphere of shared understanding between our parties on Gaza, on the defense of the family, and on the preservation of our national and moral values,” Erbakan said. “This visit is not only important for inter-party relations but also reflects our collective responsibility to the nation.”
Erbakan reaffirmed that his party will continue to support any legislative initiative aligned with the public interest. “Political parties may be rivals during elections, but when the well-being of our nation is at stake, we must act together.”
The meeting concluded with both leaders expressing their commitment to maintaining open channels of communication and cooperation. Yapıcıoğlu expressed gratitude for the New Welfare Party’s hospitality, calling the meeting “productive and fruitful.”
“Inshallah, we will be those who help each other in goodness and compete in charity,” he said.
Erbakan added, “We believe this spirit of cooperation will continue and contribute significantly to the protection of our nation’s common values and social harmony.”
The meeting is seen as part of a broader trend among Türkiye’s conservative and religious political parties to collaborate more closely on moral, social, and international issues, especially in response to global crises affecting the Muslim world. (ILKHA)
