German FM Johann Wadephul visits Türkiye for high-level talks

German Foreign Minister Johann David Wadephul arrived in Türkiye on Friday, October 17, 2025, for his inaugural official visit since assuming office in May. He is scheduled to meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara to discuss a range of bilateral, regional, and global issues.
Wadephul and Fidan will address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and collaborate on strategies to support the fragile ceasefire. Germany has called on Türkiye to exert pressure on Hamas to ensure the stability of the peace agreement.
Both nations aim to promote a secure and stable Syria, facilitating the voluntary and safe return of refugees. This includes discussions on the implementation of a 20-point peace plan and ensuring humanitarian access.
The ministers will also discuss the ongoing negotiations concerning the Eurofighter aircraft, which are part of NATO's collective defense system. Germany has recently approved these negotiations, which are seen as a step toward integrating Türkiye into Europe's defense architecture.
Wadephul's visit underscores Germany's commitment to strengthening its diplomatic and strategic ties with Türkiye, a key NATO ally and regional power. The discussions are anticipated to enhance cooperation in defense, trade, and regional stability, reflecting shared interests in addressing pressing global challenges.
This visit marks a significant moment in bilateral relations, highlighting the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration between Germany and Türkiye. (ILKHA)
