HÜDA PAR delegation meets Agriculture Minister to address urgent challenges in southeastern Türkiye

A high-level delegation from HÜDA PAR, led by Deputy Chairman and Gaziantep MP Şahzade Demir and accompanied by Mersin MP Faruk Dinç, held a meeting with Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı in Ankara to address a range of critical issues affecting farmers in Türkiye’s Southeastern Anatolia Region.
The meeting centered on mounting concerns within the region’s agriculture and livestock sectors, including severe drought conditions, dissatisfaction with current wheat pricing, and significant delays in key irrigation infrastructure projects. The delegation emphasized the urgent need for state intervention to mitigate the growing economic and environmental stress on farmers.
During the meeting, the HÜDA PAR delegation highlighted several critical concerns affecting southeastern Türkiye’s agricultural sector, including persistent drought threatening productivity across multiple provinces, inadequate wheat prices failing to meet farmers’ needs, the urgent need to accelerate the Cizre Dam and other vital irrigation projects, environmental concerns over planned tree-cutting operations in Şırnak, disruptions in access to agricultural subsidies due to incomplete land consolidation (tapulaştırma), and the call for renewed incentives to support livestock production in areas recently reopened after previous security restrictions.
In a statement following the meeting, Şahzade Demir remarked: “We visited our Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Mr. İbrahim Yumaklı. We conveyed the problems of the country and the demands of our citizens to him.”
Demir expressed appreciation for Minister Yumaklı’s receptiveness and hospitality, highlighting the importance of sustained dialogue between policymakers and regional representatives to secure the future of agriculture in the region.
The visit underscored HÜDA PAR’s commitment to advocating for farmers and promoting structural reforms aimed at achieving agricultural sustainability and economic justice in underserved areas of the country. (ILKHA)
