Istanbul’s dam water levels drop to 23.12%, authorities urge water conservation
The water levels in dams supplying Istanbul have fallen to 23.12%, according to experts, who warn that rising temperatures and increased evaporation are causing rapid decreases and are calling for a “water-saving campaign.”
Data from the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) shows that as of today, the overall dam fullness rate is 23.12%. In April, the dams had reached 82.22%, but high temperatures during the summer months and increased water consumption have led to a significant decline.
Measured dam levels are as follows:
-Ömerli: 15.47%
-Darlık: 36.4%
-Elmalı: 48.59%
-Terkos: 27.87%
-Alibey: 11.69%
-Büyükçekmece: 27.53%
-Sazlıdere: 25.37%
-Istrancalar: 23.04%
-Kazandere: 1.69%
-Pabuçdere: 6.17%
The total storage capacity of Istanbul’s dams and reservoirs is 868.683 million cubic meters, but as of today, only 200.62 million cubic meters are filled. The total rainfall recorded for this year in the dams is 412.14 kilograms per square meter.
In addition to dam supplies, the city receives 357.59 million cubic meters of water from the Melen system and 82.59 million cubic meters from Yeşilçay. Yesterday, daily water consumption in Istanbul reached 3.15 million cubic meters.
According to İSKİ statistics, as of October 24, the dam fullness rate marked the second lowest level in the last 10 years. In 2023, the rate was 20.36%, while in 2025 it measured 23.12%. (ILKHA)
