Magnitude 5.3 earthquake hits near Simav, Türkiye

A shallow earthquake struck near Simav in western Turkey on Sunday, registering a preliminary magnitude of 5.3, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
The tremor occurred at 12:59 local time at an estimated depth of 8 km, making it more strongly felt at the surface than deeper quakes.
The quake was felt across several towns near the epicentre. Simav (population 34,900) experienced noticeable shaking, along with Emet, Demirci, Gediz, Dursunbey, and Tavşanlı. Residents in Kütahya city, 89 km from the epicentre, reported weaker tremors.
No major structural damage has been reported. Local authorities said the earthquake may have caused minor incidents, such as objects falling from shelves or broken windows, but posed no serious threat to buildings or residents. (ILKHA)
