Security forces seize 69kg of heroin at eastern Türkiye border crossing

Turkish security forces thwarted a significant drug trafficking attempt at the Gürbulak Border Gate in Doğubayazıt, Ağrı province, seizing 69 kilograms of heroin during a routine vehicle inspection.
The operation, which was conducted by the Provincial Security Directorate's Intelligence and Anti-Narcotic Crimes Branch, led to the detention of one suspect.
Authorities discovered the narcotics hidden in 132 packages inside a lorry attempting to cross the border, a key route for international trafficking networks. The suspect faces charges of "trafficking or supplying drugs or stimulants," with legal proceedings underway. Details about the suspect or the heroin's intended destination remain undisclosed.
This seizure underscores the ongoing challenge of drug smuggling at Türkiye's eastern borders and highlights the critical role of border security in combating drug-related crime. Investigations continue to determine potential links to broader smuggling networks. (ILKHA)
