In a tragic accident on Sunday night, a truck with failed brakes caused a multi-vehicle collision before plunging off a bridge over the Euphrates River.
The crash resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left twenty-six others injured.
The incident occurred in the Birecik district of Şanlıurfa as the truck, en route to Gaziantep, lost its brakes and collided with six vehicles traveling ahead. Following the collision, the truck, along with one of the cars it had struck, broke through the bridge's barriers and fell approximately 10 meters to the lower road.
Amid the chaos and life-threatening situation, nearby citizens rushed to assist the injured. Emergency services, including police, fire, and medical teams, were swiftly dispatched to the scene. Fifteen injured individuals were rescued from the wreckage and, after initial on-site medical attention, were transported to state hospitals in Nizip and Birecik.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, three of the injured succumbed to their injuries in the emergency room. The treatment of the remaining twenty-six injured individuals is ongoing.
As a result of the accident, the road was temporarily closed to traffic in one direction. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. (ILKHA)
