The Turkish Interior Ministry announced the successful apprehension of 48 individuals suspected of affiliation with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in a nationwide counter-terrorism operation codenamed "Bozdoğan-21."
The coordinated effort, led by the Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate's Anti-Terror Branch Directorate and carried out in collaboration with the General Directorate of Security Intelligence Directorate and the Anti-Terror Department, targeted individuals allegedly linked to the perpetrators of the recent armed attack on Istanbul's Santa Maria Church, as well as those suspected of maintaining connections with ISIS activity in conflict zones.
Announcing the results of the operation on social media, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya highlighted the arrest of 30 suspects in Istanbul. These individuals were identified as having ties to the Santa Maria Church attackers and potentially involved in maintaining communication with ISIS fighters in active conflict zones.
Yerlikaya further revealed the apprehension of an additional 18 suspects in Ankara by the provincial security directorate. All those detained were suspected of involvement with the ISIS terrorist organization.
The "Bozdoğan-21" operation underscores Turkey's ongoing commitment to combatting terrorism and safeguarding its citizens from threats. The arrests come amidst heightened vigilance following the deadly attack on the Santa Maria Church, which left a number of casualties. (ILKHA)
