Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to attend 17th BRICS summit in Brazil

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will represent Türkiye at the 17th BRICS Summit, scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 6–7, 2025.
In an official press release issued on Saturday, the ministry stated, “Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, will participate in the 17th BRICS Summit to be held in Rio de Janeiro on 6-7 July 2025, on behalf of President Erdoğan.”
Fidan’s participation comes amid growing global interest in BRICS as a platform for emerging economies to discuss multilateral cooperation, economic development, and geopolitical challenges. Although Türkiye is not a member of the BRICS bloc—comprised of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and recently expanded to include additional nations—Ankara’s engagement signals an intent to strengthen ties with key global players and contribute to discussions on global governance reform and economic cooperation.
This marks another step in Türkiye’s broader foreign policy initiative to diversify its diplomatic partnerships and enhance its role in shaping the international order. (ILKHA)
