Turkish Foreign Minister to visit Egypt for high-level talks on Gaza

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will pay an official visit to Egypt on Saturday for a series of top-level meetings aimed at addressing the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza, bolstering regional stability, and deepening Türkiye–Egypt relations, diplomatic sources confirmed.
During his visit, Fidan is scheduled to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. The talks will focus on advancing multidimensional cooperation between the two countries and tackling pressing regional developments.
A central item on the agenda will be the ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israel, currently mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. Fidan is expected to reiterate Türkiye’s position that Israel’s recent actions — including moves toward annexing Gaza and undermining the two-state solution — threaten regional peace and stability.
The discussions will also emphasize the urgent need to end the bloodshed in Gaza and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged territory.
The ministers will review the outcomes of the International Conference on Palestine, held in New York from July 28 to 30, in which Türkiye actively participated. Broader regional security issues will also be on the table, including coordinated efforts to stabilize North and East Africa and the Sahel region, with particular focus on ongoing crises in Libya, Sudan, and Somalia.
Fidan’s visit comes amid a renewed push to strengthen diplomatic engagement between Ankara and Cairo. The two foreign ministers last met in Istanbul during the 51st session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers on June 20–21. Earlier in the year, Fidan traveled to Cairo on March 23 for an OIC–Arab League Gaza Contact Group meeting, while Abdelatty visited Türkiye on February 4 for bilateral consultations.
Observers note that the visit underscores both nations’ commitment to closer cooperation and coordinated action on critical regional challenges, especially as tensions in the Middle East remain high. (ILKHA)
