Türkiye condemns desecration of Muslim cemetery in Greece

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, Tanju Bilgiç, issued a statement strongly condemning the recent act of vandalism in which tombstones were desecrated in a Muslim cemetery located in Narlıköy, Western Thrace.
The incident, carried out by unidentified individuals over the weekend, has raised concerns and prompted swift action.
In response to the disturbing event, Bilgiç acknowledged the Greek Secretary General at the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs' statement, indicating that an investigation into the matter has been initiated. He called on Greek authorities to promptly apprehend the culprits and ensure that justice is served.
“The fact that even the cemeteries of Muslims are being targeted within the framework of the increasing Islamophobia across Europe demonstrates the importance and urgency of the struggle to defend our common human values,” Bilgiç emphasized during his statement.
Furthermore, Bilgiç urged the Greek government to take immediate and necessary measures to prevent similar acts from occurring in the future and to ensure the peace and security of the Turkish Minority residing in Western Thrace.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges related to religious and ethnic tensions in the region and underscores the need for collaborative efforts to combat acts of hatred and intolerance. (ILKHA)
