Türkiye hosts Hamas officials for Talks on Gaza ceasefire implementation
Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Director İbrahim Kalın held a meeting in Istanbul with a senior Hamas delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya, head of the group’s Political Bureau Negotiation Committee, to discuss the implementation of the next phases of the Gaza ceasefire plan.
According to security sources, the meeting on Wednesday focused on evaluating the progress of the ceasefire and determining the roadmap for its continuation amid ongoing regional tensions.
During the talks, the Hamas delegation expressed its appreciation to Türkiye — and in particular to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan — for Ankara’s mediation efforts and its role as a guarantor in ensuring and monitoring the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
The delegation reaffirmed Hamas’s commitment to maintaining the truce, despite what it described as “repeated Israeli violations” during the ceasefire period.
Both sides exchanged views on the measures needed to sustain the ceasefire process and address obstacles hindering its smooth implementation. Discussions also covered the mechanisms for carrying out the upcoming stages of the ceasefire plan, including potential frameworks for international monitoring and humanitarian access.
In addition to ceasefire discussions, the meeting also highlighted Türkiye’s ongoing humanitarian efforts in Gaza. Kalın briefed the Hamas representatives on Ankara’s coordination with international organizations to facilitate additional aid deliveries and alleviate the worsening humanitarian situation in the besieged enclave.
Türkiye has maintained active engagement in diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, positioning itself as both a mediator and humanitarian supporter in the crisis.
The meeting comes as part of Türkiye’s broader regional diplomacy aimed at achieving a sustainable truce, preventing further civilian casualties, and ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid to Palestinians affected by months of Israeli bombardment. (ILKHA)
