Türkiye to chair OIC extraordinary session on Israeli genocide in Gaza

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will travel to Jeddah on August 25 to preside over an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers.
According to the ministry’s statement, the session was convened at Türkiye’s initiative in its capacity as Chair of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers. The gathering will focus on the ongoing Israeli genocide against the Palestinian people and Tel Aviv’s latest decision to escalate its military operations in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The extraordinary session, hosted in the Saudi city of Jeddah, comes amid mounting global outrage over Israel’s systematic targeting of civilians in Gaza, which has left tens of thousands dead and millions facing famine under the ongoing blockade.
Diplomatic sources said the OIC session will provide a platform for Muslim countries to coordinate a united response to Israel’s widening aggression, explore concrete measures to halt the assault, and amplify international pressure for accountability.
Türkiye, which currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the OIC Council, has repeatedly condemned Israel’s actions as crimes against humanity and called for urgent global mobilization to end what it describes as a campaign of ethnic cleansing.
Foreign Minister Fidan, who has been outspoken on the Gaza crisis in international fora, is expected to deliver a strong message emphasizing solidarity with the Palestinian cause and the necessity of concrete actions rather than symbolic condemnations.
The OIC, which represents 57 Muslim-majority countries, has previously issued statements condemning Israel’s policies, but Ankara’s push for an extraordinary ministerial meeting signals a growing demand within the Muslim world for stronger and more coordinated steps to halt the bloodshed in Gaza.
