Türkiye's presidential cabinet meets on terror, economy, and foreign affairs

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan chaired a comprehensive session of the Presidential Cabinet at the Presidential Complex in Ankara on Monday, tackling pressing issues in national security, economic policy, and foreign affairs.
The high-level meeting focused on advancing the "Terror-Free Türkiye" initiative, combating inflation, reforming pensions, and navigating Türkiye’s role in regional and global diplomacy.
The Cabinet prioritized the "Terror-Free Türkiye" initiative, a cornerstone of the government’s efforts to neutralize the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Discussions centered on accelerating the disarmament of PKK militants and implementing robust counter-terrorism measures to prevent provocations and ensure stability. President Erdoğan underscored the importance of sustained progress in disarming the group, building on recent negotiations for weapons surrenders.
On the economic front, the Cabinet reviewed ongoing strategies to curb inflation, a persistent challenge for Turkish citizens. Ministers deliberated on upcoming pension increases set for July, with a focus on raising the minimum pension and providing targeted support for retirees with lower base salaries. The session also advanced negotiations on public sector wage adjustments, aiming to balance cost-of-living relief with fiscal responsibility as part of broader economic reforms.
Foreign policy discussions highlighted Türkiye’s active role in addressing regional and global crises. The Cabinet assessed the fragile ceasefire between Iran and Israel, emphasizing Türkiye’s mediation efforts to stabilize the region. The dire humanitarian situation in Gaza was a key point, with ministers exploring ways to bolster aid and support. Developments in the Russia-Ukraine war were also analyzed, alongside a review of President Erdoğan’s bilateral talks at the recent NATO Summit, where alliance unity and strategic partnerships were reaffirmed.
Official statements outlining the Cabinet’s decisions are expected to be released in the coming days, providing further details on the government’s plans. The meeting underscores Türkiye’s multifaceted approach to addressing domestic challenges while maintaining an influential role in regional and international affairs. (ILKHA)
